No. 5 seed Paula Badosa struggled a bit against world No. 36 Sara Sorribes Tormo but still managed to escape with a straight-set victory. Badosa, ranked at No. 7 in the world, handed Sorribes Tormo a 7-6 (4) 6-1 loss to progress into the Indian Wells Masters round-of-16. Sorribes Tormo certainly had her chances as she was three times up by a break in the first set but Badosa three times recovered to force a tie-break, which she won pretty easily to steal the first set.
